Coach Dan's Sunday Spotlight 10.2.2016

November 6, 2020

Happy Sunday! Welcome to October!I want to thank everyone first of all for volunteering for our upcoming Monsuta Competition we're hosting this Saturday. If you didn't volunteer but still want to come out and watch some awesome athletes complete fun events... You should come out. There is also still time to sign up if you'd like to throw your hat in the ring! I will be messaging the volunteer group with more information later on this week.

Today I want to dedicate this spotlight to the veterans. We recently raised $1200 for an upcoming local Warrior Camp that is there for the purpose of helping our veterans overcome issues that have come about due to what they have seen and what they have endured while they were overseas. Having served overseas and been able to be amongst some of these veterans I have a special place in my heart for what they are going through. I want to sincerely thank you for joining Lockdown and contributing to this awesome cause.Last week I was asked by my former UVU Men's Soccer teammate, Nathan Pond, to take on the 22 Pushup Challenge. I am sure many, if not all, have seen posts about the 22 pushup challenge online. I want to give you a little background on what this challenge is meant to do. Every day an average of 22 veterans commit suicide. This is a staggering number but totally believable. Many times we understand the need for troops to go overseas but we don't understand what that does to our young men and women. The things that they have to see and have to endure can cause permanent damage that we will never understand. So instead of just posting my own video of 22 pushups for 22 days, I have an idea. I want to involve you. So, my plan is to do 22 pushups as part of our warmup for the next 22 days... With that I will choose one of you to record the whole class doing the pushups and have you post it to your social media. Each day we will choose a new person in every class to post it. This will in turn reach more and more people. A couple of things I will ask is that you tag your friends, at least 3, to do the same thing. We will also include a couple of places where people can go to donate to help veterans, including the foundation we donated our $ and (This is the one that hosts the warrior camps) are two of the places you can donate. At the 22kill website you can donate and receive a cool ring and your proceeds go towards the foundation. Our efforts will never be enough but at least this is something we can do and something we have control over. Even if we can't donate, we can still help raise awareness and through that awareness we will be able to educate more people and in turn generate more money and more opportunities that will help lower this devastating number.Thank you again for being so willing to be a part of this. I can't think of a better group of people to share this with and I know that we can make a difference together.Coach Dan
