Coach Dan's Sunday Spotlight 11.4.2018

November 6, 2020

Good afternoon CFTP,I want to start out with a couple of announcements!Saturday Morning Hours ChangeWe will be moving the Saturday morning hours. Starting this coming Saturday the hours will now be as follows:8 and 9 AM will be regular WOD hours.10 AM will now be Open GymSkills Workshop ReturnsWe will be bringing back our monthly skills workshop every 3rd Saturday of each month and that will be at 9 AM on the third Saturday. We will post a question to our Facebook page and vote on which skills our members want us to focus on during the workshop each month.OpportunitiesReal Salt Lake making it to the playoffs this year and then winning in the first knockout game has got me thinking a lot about opportunities. Two weeks ago when RSL lost their final game of the season, myself and I'd say most everybody felt that RSL had squandered their opportunity to play in the post season. What impressed me the most is that Coach Mike Petke and company still practiced and worked out as if they would be playing in the playoffs. They needed a miracle that most thought was impossible but by preparing even when all odds were against them they set themselves up to win in the first round knockout game. How does this pertain to us? I don't know if you're like me but through the years I have had many naysayers around me. Many people who saw the path I was taking and said, I bet he fails. They may not have said it to my face and some did actually say it to my face but what I learned is that if we listen to all the negativity around us and believe it, we can't be successful.More often than not, that negativity comes from within us. This is something I think we all can work on. I do it to myself all the time. I tell myself that it isn't possible or that I am going to fail at this or that and eventually I talk myself out of even trying. We put ourselves on the bench before the game has even begun! When you talk negatively about your situation or about your abilities, you make it very hard to succeed. If you can't believe in yourself then how is it possible to think other people are going to believe in you?I want you all to believe that you can change your situation if you want to. I want you all to set goals of coming the gym more often and eating more healthy and not only set those goals but truly believe in yourself to follow through with those goals. I want you to set goals towards something that scares you but is something that you feel you want to do. You are capable of more than you give yourself credit for. Challenge yourself and I know that you will accomplish great things. If you are having a hard time believing in yourself, let me in on your goals and let me believe in you until you believe in yourself!Coach Dan
