Coach Dan's Sunday Spotlight 2.14.2016

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!Is it Sunday? Days have blurred together... I firstly need to thank you all for your support as Emily brought little Scarlet into the world today. You all were so invested and it was like we were bringing Scarlet into one huge CFTP family. She's one lucky girl to have all these strong men and women to look after her and protect her.For those of you who are not on Facebook and have not seen the announcement. Scarlet Paige Adamson, our first child, was born this morning at 2:09 AM. She weighed a mere 6 pounds 2 ounces and is 18 inches long. Emily had a great pregnancy but those last 85 hours were tough and we truly do appreciate your support and help. We love her and can't wait for all of you to meet her.So I'm going to share a bit about Emily's labor. Emily started her contractions early afternoon Wednesday, Scarlet's due date. She continued to have those contractions approximately every 10 minutes for the next 72 hours or so and then the frequency and intensity increased from there on out. We went into the hospital and while we had a plan in place things did not go as planned... Do they ever?To make a long story short we ended up having to do a few things to get Scarlet here safely that without Emily's strength and fitness would not have been possible. Little Scarlet was struggling to keep her heart rate up during contractions and they had to get her out ASAP or they were going to have to cut her out if Emily couldn't get her out in a timely manner. Within a few minutes of pushing, Emily was able to safely deliver Scarlet without the need for emergency surgery. While it wasn't an ideal situation we were able to bring our little girl into this world safe and sound. You may ask yourself why I share this with you... Well, a couple of reasons. First of all, you are all like family to me and I know you all care about myself and Emily very much. Second of all, I wanted to show you an example of how keeping yourself healthy and fit can benefit your life and the lives of those you love. Everyday we have circumstances that come our way that are unpredictable and sometimes unwanted. We face challenges, both physical and mental, that will try our bodies and our minds. In that moment if we are not prepared to face those challenges they can destroy us; both physically and mentally.CrossFit does more for us than just make us strong physically. CrossFit challenges you daily mentally. It makes you push a little harder. It makes you jump a little higher. It pushes you to your limits every day and when you challenge yourself at that level day in and day out the attitude and mental fortitude that you build in the gym flows out into your day to day lives. You become more confident. You become more efficient. You become a better husband or wife. You become a better father or mother, a better friend, colleague, neighbor. By building yourself up you are able to build up others around you.You all are so strong both physically and mentally. I look up to you for what you do at the box but especially what you do outside the box. Facebook is a wonderful thing where I am able to watch as all of you do amazing things everyday. I love seeing you all be examples to your children and also to all those you come in contact with. Thank you for being the awesome people you are.I hope you are prepared for tomorrow's WOD... "Scarlet Paige"... Let's just say... Emily told me to make sure it hurt. ;)Coach Dan
