This is the week! The week where we get to find out what we're made of. The week we get to put our fitness to the test. The week where we get to watch as our CFTP peeps push themselves harder than they ever have. This is the week of the first Open announcement!I always call the open, CrossFit Christmas because it kind of is. Every week for the next five weeks we get a surprise WOD that we get to accomplish. Nobody knows what it is until it is announced Thursday night at 6 PM. Once it is announced we have until Monday at 6 PM to submit our best score. This year we are all going to watch the announcement at the gym at 6 PM on Thursday nights. We will then take the next hour or so getting warmed up and strategizing. At 7:45 instead of our skills class we will be doing the WOD. Anyone who wants to do it this first night is welcome to join us. On Friday we, as a gym, will take on the Open WOD all day. Anyone who signed up will submit their score on games.crossfit.com to be put up against the rest of the world.The main Open throwdown for The Point will be happening on Saturday mornings at 11 AM. If you can make it happen, this is the time to be at the gym. This is where we will put heats together and we will compete side by side and push each other. We've done this in the past and it is a blast. Everyone comes in and everyone gives 100 percent. It's such an awesome atmosphere.I love this time of the year. I can't wait to see all of you give your 100 percent and accomplish feats you never thought were possible.
I stumbled upon this picture above and I think it makes a great observation and point. In life and in the gym cutting corners never got anyone anywhere. We've all dealt with people who cut corners or we have been guilty of cutting corners ourselves. The fact of the matter is, you can't expect to get results without putting in the work. Of course this applies to the obvious rep shavers and range of motion cheaters. While this does bother me more than you will ever understand...it's not what I want to focus on today.
We all know that success doesn't just happen but many times what is holding us back are our own insecurities and self-doubt. You all know me pretty well and know the look I give when someone says they're not going to do something that was programmed for one reason or another. (Unless there is a medical reason, of course) You all know how I feel about people who cherry pick their WODs and only choose to come in when the WOD is in their favor or something they are comfortable with. You all know how I feel when you aren't willing to sign up for a competition. Why do you think this disappoints me? Is it because I feel like I'm the best programmer in the world so everyone should be doing what I say? No. Is it because it hurts my feelings that you don't want to do the program that I set out for you? No... Well, maybe a little... ;) but the true reason this bothers me is that I see potential in you and every time you miss a day or every time you miss an opportunity to step outside your comfort zone you are digressing and not progressing towards your true potential.
We all have weaknesses. We all have strengths. Our goal should be to make our weaknesses strong and and our strengths stronger. When I program the WODs I am thinking about your strengths and weaknesses. I am programming to make you fitter. My goal is to make you the fittest person you can be. The only way that is going to happen is if you trust me and if you trust yourself enough to know that you can do it. I know it can be intimidating to work out next to "the beasts" of the gym. I know it can be scary to take last in a workout. I know it is challenging to feel out of place and awkward. We all have been there and the sooner you take on the challenge and rise above your own insecurities the sooner you can progress.
In every single one of you there is a warrior. When you see a WOD that looks scary I want you to remember that even if you don't have confidence that you can do it, know that I am confident that you can do it. Every trainer at The Point believes you can do it. You're not in this journey alone. That is the beauty of CrossFit. We all come into the gym with the same goal in mind. We all come in to conquer the same task. It doesn't matter if you're first or last or Rx or Comp or Scaled. It doesn't matter. YOU are doing the work that challenges YOU and makes YOU better.

I love what Jordan Mower posted on our Facebook page the other day.He had this to say about consistency: "Coming to crossfit 4-5 times a week the last two weeks is overrated. Cons: I get sweet new shoes metcon 2.0. I'm starting to feel competitive again. I'm sleeping better. I no longer crave Dr. Pepper and half&half with a delicious rasberry fritter for every meal. My body is starting to feel like a purebred Siberian black stallion. Every time I look in the mirror it's starting to look like a piece or Greek chiseled sculpted art. I find my testosterone level at an all time high. (We all know what that means). I have less road rage. I have a small desire to go to church and be nice to people and stuff. Pro: I get to see my CFTP peeps"
