Good Afternoon CFTP,
First of all... We need to give ourselves a pat on the back for it is now official... Our Open team climbed from 81st place last year to 43rd place this year! That is a jump of 38 spots! That is incredible. Here are a few stats that stood out to me.
First of all, to get our team score each week they take our top 3 guys scores and top 3 girls scores. Throughout this open we had those scores come from 11 different people! This shows the depth of our strength at The Point. We don't just have 3 strong ladies and 3 strong dudes. We have many people who can step up any given week.
Our best performance as a team came in week 3 where we took 30th in the region. As a reminder week 3 was the Snatches and Bar muscle up couplet. What this tells me is that when Dave Castro throws a new skill movement into the mix we are more prepared to adapt.
In week 5 Dave Castro tested us on a workout we have done before. In 2014 our 6 best scores amounted to 1 hour 20 minutes and 28 seconds. This year our total for our 6 best scores amounted to 1 hour 13 minutes and 58 seconds. A team record by 6 and a half minutes! In addition to that we had personal records on that WOD across the gym.
I am blown away at the progress we have made as a gym. We are fitter than we have ever been and the sky is the limit for us. You all blew way past my expectations. My hope was to be in the 50s this year... You almost broke into the 30s! Every week I was more and more impressed with the level of competition you all brought. I was also impressed with the support you showed towards your fellow athletes. I know we all want those coveted top spots and we are all doing everything we can to get a better ranking in the gym but that didn't stop you all from sincerely cheering on your CFTP family. When you get to the point where your competitive side overshadows your supportive side than you have lost. The best way to be is to fully support and cheer on your teammates while doing everything you can to win. Leave it all on the floor and let the pieces fall where they may.
I am super proud to be the owner of a box with such amazing athletes and people. You all make me proud every day. With the race season coming up I can't wait to watch as you all take your fitness outside the box. This box would not be possible without all the great people who contribute. We just past our 4 year mark and we are not going anywhere anytime soon. I wanted to thank all the coaches The Point has had in the past and the killer team we have assembled right now. We are lucky to have the caliber of coaches that we have at The Point. Every year they are looking for ways to get better. Just this past week Coach JoAnn passed her USAW Olympic Lifting course and Coach LaDee just signed up for her Weight lifting certification. All our other coaches have plans to attend other noteworthy trainings in order to help better coach you.
Once again, I want to thank everyone who signed up for The Open. It really means a lot to me and nothing makes me happier than seeing you all make breakthroughs like many of you did during The Open.
