About Coach

Iโ€™m Shauna Mayer, a fun, easily distracted foodie who is passionate about fitness and nutrition. I majored in Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Utah and minored in Spanish. Hablo Espanol. I was only required to take a basic nutrition class for my major which I found bizarre. In my final paper, I compared my program with other top programs in the United States and my main criticism was the lack of nutrition courses required.
I have worked in the fitness field coaching Bootcamp style and CrossFit classes for over 20 years (yes I am over 20 ๐Ÿ˜‰) and have referred my clients to other nutrition coaches. Recently, I decided to take matters into my own hands and join 360Nutrition.fitness and get certified to be a nutrition coach. I have learned so much the last few years about how and what to feed my own body as a CrossFit athlete and distance runner that I am excited to share with others.
Teaching has been a passion in my life for years. I received my Masters of Education from Washington State University in Washington State. I have taught Spanish, soccer, field hockey, Polynesian dancing, cheerleading, group fitness, Crossfit, and more to children from Pre-k all the way to 80-year-olds.

Turning Point

My journey to where I now have not been an easy one! I have a learning disability and ADD and taking tests whether in school or for certification gives me a lot of anxiety. Getting into a master's program and then doing very well in the program was a life accomplishment for me (straight As!!!). This example may seem insignificant but I failed the CrossFit exam due 1st time which was super humbling and a little humiliating. I studied super hard before I retook the test and passed it. I learned so much more as I studied for it after failing it! Failure is always hard but has a way of making us stronger.

Motivation & Passion

I am very passionate about coaching! I love seeing people learn to move well and get stronger. I enjoy coaching all people but am particularly passionate about postpartum women. I have come back and got in shape after each of my 4 babies. There are certain movements you should and should not do after having a baby. Some women are afraid of exercise after having a baby and I want to show them they donโ€™t have to be afraid! I also recently found out I really enjoy coaching older folks to help them stay strong and mobile. I recently had a client in her late 70s who fell while hiking and was able to stand right up. She attributed it to all the squats we do in her training and I have no doubt they helped!
